My Top Issues
Enhancing digital infrastructure and connectivity
Technology is evolving rapidly, and innovations like AI are transforming how we learn in schools and approach everyday challenges. To keep pace, we must embrace these tools in a positive and responsible way, and adapt our systems to ensure they support and enhance student learning.
Promoting Mental Health Awareness
Addressing mental health across a school district requires a multifaceted approach, as students' needs vary widely and are influenced by personal, familial, cultural, and community factors. Effective support demands collaboration among the district, school board, parents, and the broader community. Our district offers various resources for students, parents, and educators, including counselors, hotline services, and both in-person and online support systems. Early identification and intervention are crucial. Implementing confidential surveys and focus groups can help establish a baseline for improvement. Tools like KRAs and HIB reporting aid in detecting trend shifts. Above all, fostering an open, inclusive, and stigma-free environment ensures students feel heard and supported. The board should also consider strategic funding adjustments to address post-pandemic challenges as students advance through their education.
housing growth
Our town is anticipating the development of approximately 4,000 new homes in the near future. While growth can bring many benefits, this significant increase in housing is likely to place considerable strain on our local schools. Given current housing prices, the impact will be felt most acutely at the middle and high school levels, where enrollment is expected to surge.
To ensure our schools can continue to provide high-quality education and maintain manageable class sizes, we need a comprehensive and forward-thinking plan. This is a critical issue that requires collaboration, transparency, and proactive leadership.
